Congratulations
are in order for two members of our class. Well done to Bella, who was highly
commended for her poem ‘The Ballard of the Wattle.’ A beautiful poem inspired
by Wattle Day.
Furthermore,
well done to Amos who was the winner for his age category with his poem ‘The
Weavers.’ A beautiful poem made of 13 rhyming four-line stanzas, which is a
tricky concept within itself. We are also immensely proud to announce that Amos
was the overall winner of the competition which was open to the ages of 7-25.
The ceremony was a celebration of wonderful, creative young minds from all over
the state, creating works of art in the genre of poetry. Congratulations to
both of our worthy winners; we are all so very proud of you!

POETRY LAND –
ASSEMBLY ITEM
We’re
about to take an exciting trip to poetry land,
However,
we realise that this has not been well planned.
Buckle
your seat belts and enjoy the view,
We’re
going to a unique place and we’re taking you.
Now
poetry land is such a special place,
It’s
astounding, it’s astonishing, it’s really quite ace.
This is the opening verse to Room 22’s
Poetry themed assembly extravaganza, which we performed on the 17th
of October 2014, the first assembly of the term. Topics for the assembly were
in full flow, with everything from superhero skits to commemorate our work at
Leeming to the extremely creative idea of singing pop music in different
languages, but the topic that prevailed was the ‘Welcome to Poetry Land.’ Which
categorised our work on poetry, from the simple aspects of rhyme to the
trickier personification, imagery and vocabulary. However, our assembly was
still lacking the ‘creative touch’ used to make our assembly special, so we
came up with something else- we decided we would do the assembly IN RHYME! This
seemed like a difficult task at first, but we were able to get into groups
deciding on what topic we wanted to do and write some very sensational poetry
to serve as the script for our assembly. The plot of our assembly follows the
poetry journey of a boy named Peng as he learns each aspect of poetry- from
writing his first rhyme to mastering the difficult aspects of vocabulary. Along
the way, we were also secretly teaching the audience all about writing great
poems- while rhyming all the way! Congratulations to Room 22 on a truly
fantastic assembly- we should be so proud!
- Bella
In
just week one of term number four,
Room
22 dropped jaws to the floor.
Putting
on a play of rhyming grandeur,
With
every student acting totally mature.
Delivered
in rhyme, and full of fun,
The
audience sat still until it was done.
In
the planning, everyone had a say,
As
it slowly formed, much like clay.
All
about poetry, as I’m sure you know,
Nice
and smooth, not taut like a bow.
Following
the path of a lad named Peng,
You
know, that kid with the last name Sheng.
Packed
with wisdom about poetry,
And
completely serious, well, mostly.
Teaching
you imagery, rhyme as well,
Fortunately;
Peng caught on just swell.

SCHOOL REVIEW
Furthermore, I am proud to announce that
Wattle Grove Primary has been shortlisted as one of four finalists for the 2014
School of the Year. It is a wonderful honour and we share it with three other
schools. Thank you to parents and students who have helped Wattle Grove Primary
achieve this commendation. We have quite a busy start to the year as both
School Review and Education Award members will be visiting our school.
